Maxim Screws the Black Crowes

The Black Crowes are squawking mad at Maxim magazine! The publication gives the Crowes' new album "Warpaint" a scathing review in the March issue ... apparently without ever listening to it!

Although no advance CD's were made available, the mag lists the album as having two-and-a-half stars out of five and says, "it [the album] hasn't left Chris Robinson and the gang much room for growth."

According to the AP, the band's manager, Pete Angelus said Maxim explained the review as an "educated guess."

18. What do you expect? I am insulting grade school kids with this comment but the articles in Maxim are written by people who appear to be in the fourth grade! Oh well that magazine will be out of business in a few years anyway!

19. Here is a quote. . .

"It speaks directly to the lack of the publication's credibility," Angelus said in a statement. "In my opinion, it's a disgrace to the arts, journalism, critics, the publication itself and the public. What's next — Maxim's concert reviews of shows they never attended, book reviews of books never read and film reviews of films never seen?"

Has he ever read the crap in Maxim? Art of Journalism? Maxim? ROTFL

First, Maxim is written for 12 year olds by 12 year olds. Read a book? are you kidding? the editors don't even know how to read. What surprises me is that anyone is surprised at this from a magazine that publishes articles like "I am hotter than your girlfriend" and answers riveting life altering questions like "What do they do with amputated body parts at the Hospital?" WOW - now THAT is what I call journalistic integrity.

And if you use this magazine for fashion advice . . . good luck in the gay bars and drag clubs, because you will be laughed out of any other self respecting establishment. Not that there is anything wrong with going to gay bars and drag clubs, but this magazine is (supposedly) for heterosexual, testosterone laden adolescents with more libido than brains and for who the articles and jokes in Playboy are incomprehensible. More likely, they are too young to actually BUY Playboy. Here is the only explanation that MAXIM continues to exist - 12 year olds who cant buy Playboy or steal them from their Dad, can walk into Walmart and buy MAXIM and hide it under their mattress for those late night visits to the john.

Don't feel too bad, Black Crows. I would have felt worse if they had actually LIKED your album. Then I would have been REALLY upset.

20. The music may or may not suck, Fact of the matter is, they shouldn't do a review if they haven't heard the music they're reviewing.

21. Let's see, I will buy the Crows new album and I won't buy another Maxim.

22. The Black Crowes have had some great music. Not a huge fan, but they're pretty good, I think.

23. Educated guess? I doubt it. I suspect the writer of the review and the editor aren't educated; this kind of bush league play is something someone who is STUPID & UNEDUCATED would do.

If I were Chris Robinson, I would sue maxim magazine; it's a sure winner. It's ILLEGAL and UNETHICAL for any critic to give a review of a film or album they haven't seen or heard. Especially if they pan it; if this is the case, then they've engaged in slander & libel. At the very least, the writer of the review should be fired for gross negligence & stupidity. Regardless, this shows maxim magazine to not be a publication of integrity, but a place where crooked hacks can work...

24. Anyone who does or doesn't buy music based on a magazine's review is a dumbass anyway.

26. I'm shocked I tell you just shocked, that a magazine, or any news media for that matter would just make something up!! - NOT!!

27. This just goes to show you, don't always base your opinion about something on just one review. Maxim needs to issue an apology and let it be known that they sometimes review things without actually seeing or hearing it.

28. From the same people that said Desperate housewives would be the worst show ever put on TV. People still buy that piece of crap?

29. Just proves that critics and reviews don't mean a damn thing. My personal experience has been, that if something is panned by critics, I can be pretty sure I'll like it. A bunch of snobs who take themselves too seriously.
