Pierce Brosnan -- The Name is Battery Suspect

Pierce BrosnanTMZ has learned the L.A. County Sheriff's Department is investigating Pierce Brosnan for allegedly battering a man in Malibu.

The incident allegedly occurred outside Casa Escobar last Friday in a Malibu mall about 6:15 PM. We're told Brosnan allegedly committed a battery on Robert Rosen, a photographer.

According to Rosen, Pierce was there with his kids, when Rosen began snapping photos (see below). Rosen says Pierce then said, "Why don't you get a real f**king job." Rosen says he then started complimenting Pierce on his Bond roles.

A short time later, an enraged Pierce allegedly told the photog, "Why don't you f**k off, mate," and then struck him in the ribs. A witness says the pap instinctively reacted by kicking Pierce -- we're told, in the stomach.

Sheriff's spokesperson Steve Whitmore says his department is "actively investigating" the matter and will be referring the case to the L.A. County D.A. for review.

Brosnan's rep was not immediately available for comment.

77. Well, this is a tough one, we have tempermental movie stars who needless to say their careers were made by us, but it stil does not give photographers to violate someone's space with the flashing of the camera. How would we like it if we had the same thing happen.
I do believe the stars need to act like civilized people and try to ignore and just get the hell in the car and not hit somebody. What the hell does that prove? It will just get you in the hot seat and maybe have to pay a fine or get sued. Many of the stars think they are too good for anyone and that is a shame. If it was not for fans they would be nothing. Mr. Bronson needs to grow up and act like a civilized person. No matter what a person says or does you have no right to hit them unless they hit you.

81. I don't know if you can say someone is a "has-been" when his royaltys from all his shows and movies net him more a year than Matt Damon,Ben Affleck and Bruce Willis combined,and he only works 1/10 th as much as these other poor slobs have to..I hope i'm a has-been someday....go double-o!!!

83. I must admit I love poring over celebrity photos'. I'm interested in what they're wearing, how they're made up, and who they're canoodling with. Then again, if I stop and think about it, the photos' I really enjoy are those when the celebs are attending functions and are dressed to the nines. I don't want to see photos' of Britney eating ice cream at a convenience store, or Paris on the beach with her butt hanging out of an almost "not there" bikini. What I'm trying to convey IS, maybe just maybe, celebs should JUST be photographed when they're being celebs, not during their private time and NOT when they're with their families. Pierce Brosnan had EVERY right to protect his sons. Paps take things too far and I'm sick of it. I'm also sick of the RUDE comments made on this site by people who have nothing better to do than bash people. The remark about Pierce's wife, Keely Shaye Smith, was cruel. She's a beautiful HEALTHY woman. Utterly kind and a GREAT Mom. How dare you comment on her weight. She has the heart of a beyond handsome man; that says it ALL. Pierce is a GREAT family man and he has EVERY right to protect his family. How dare the paps intrude on private times!

84. That R. Rosen guy with the camera was in the wrong...the man was with his kids for heaven sake...isn't anything sacred to those guys (the ones with the camera?) I would have done worse...I prob. would have run him down with my car and then backed up to make sure I did the job right the first time....the nerve of them....those camera junkies are the reason Diana is dead...what eles do they want from "the rich and famous"? Just leave them alone, and when they want publisity they'll call you camera guys, you can bank on it.

86. I know this photographer since grad school. He is the most kind, polite person out there. He immediately called me from the ER telling me about the horrible incident. He is in alot of pain and is having trouble breathing. Rib contusions can do that. Justice always prevails...wait and see!!

88. Rosen and his kind live for this, it's the reaction they specifically want and harass until they get. Here he stooped to stalking children, got put in his place by their father, kicked liked a girl and ran away then had the nerve to press charges and play the victim so he could milk the publicity and get more for his photos A perfect representative of his bottom dwelling profession.

90. I think all the stars that have been harrassed by the media need to band together and get the laws changed so the paps have to be so far away...and NO shots of their children without permission. As adults the stars know what they got themselves into being in the biz....but children get thrown in and are put in danger and they have no say in the matter. When the pap got his foot run over by Brit....#1 WHY WERE YOU THAT CLOSE TO A MOVING CAR?? Dumbass...#2 Do ANY of you paps have a conscience? Do you not EVER feel bad at the possibility you are putting children in danger? #3 How would you feel if it were YOUR children being thrust into the spotlight unwillingly? Personally, if it were up to me....the celebs would have legal rights to carry a tazer or stun gun ( possibly a gun with some of the paps that do get overly aggressive)...you get to close...they are justified to protect themselves and their children.
I guarantee, when all is said and done, Pierce was reacting as ANY parent would if they felt their children were at risk....I dont buy the whole "I was complimenting him on his movies" crap...Watch tv enough...the paps are getting way too aggressive!!!
