Pierce Brosnan -- The Name is Battery Suspect

Pierce BrosnanTMZ has learned the L.A. County Sheriff's Department is investigating Pierce Brosnan for allegedly battering a man in Malibu.

The incident allegedly occurred outside Casa Escobar last Friday in a Malibu mall about 6:15 PM. We're told Brosnan allegedly committed a battery on Robert Rosen, a photographer.

According to Rosen, Pierce was there with his kids, when Rosen began snapping photos (see below). Rosen says Pierce then said, "Why don't you get a real f**king job." Rosen says he then started complimenting Pierce on his Bond roles.

A short time later, an enraged Pierce allegedly told the photog, "Why don't you f**k off, mate," and then struck him in the ribs. A witness says the pap instinctively reacted by kicking Pierce -- we're told, in the stomach.

Sheriff's spokesperson Steve Whitmore says his department is "actively investigating" the matter and will be referring the case to the L.A. County D.A. for review.

Brosnan's rep was not immediately available for comment.

46. I would get pissed too if someone was taking pictures of a family outing. The paps are ruthless and only care about themselves getting a big exclusive pic, even if it robs them of their humanity. I think the pap in this case provoked Brosnan and if it would of been me in Brosnan's shoes I would of kicked the crap out of him, then took his picture ,as he is laying on the ground soaking in his own urine , and post it on the web. How would that feel?? Stupid paps, remember Diana, paps robbed us of her..

47. Sounds like the Pap is trying to make his own news story. I don't blame Pierce at all for getting angry and smacking him. The kids should be off limits. Also Just because someone has a camera, does that give them a right to start following someone and invading their space? I don't think so. Good for Brosnan.

48. Aunt Acid, I didn't see that segment but your post was a bit of an eye-opener. I hate to believe that this gorgeous man would fly off like that in front of his children but in all fairness I don't agree when ethnic groups refuse to believe that their heroes, Simpson, Jackson, Vicks, crappy rappers etc. are guilty of crimes so I have to be fair. I still think there is always more to it in these stories where the oh-so-innocent paparrazzi are "attacked" by these terrible celebrities out of the clear blue sky. Sometimes it's enlightening when someone remembers an old story like that. I completely agree with OCD's post too though, the laws have got to change to protect children and make the streets a little safer while still preserving freedom of the press. These guys are not journalists, they're freelance photographers who literally stalk celebrities. Why on earth should the celebrities be grateful to be noticed? That is such an asinine statement. Dub, paparrazzi is actually Italian for misquitoe so you're not far off.

50. # 13, Actually Brosnan is kind of a jerk in person. Also, he's still pissed off that he lost the job as James Bond, and has been bad mouthing the producers ever since. Maybe he found out what women in Hollywood have always known...you're always expendable. At this point he's lucky someone wants to take his picture.

51. yes.. we know that the paps can be obnoxiously pushy, but i'll never understand why someone would go into a business where publicity is the name of the game and then get all pushed out of shape because they're being photographed. there are plenty of other careers available where nobody will have any interest in taking your picture.

52. Brosnan's bud Director John McTiernan was arrested for wiretapping and lying to the FBI and got 4 months last heard. This all stems from the Anthony Pellicano Celebrity Investigator Case who wiretapped for some of Hollywood's biggest players. Pierce did John McTiernan's move Nomads and Thomas Crown Affair and Rollerball with Pierce's Irish Dream Time Production Company. There are many stories circulating for years about many wiretapping and stalking of innocent people and maybe with the stories written above- maybe the FBI should question Pierce Brosnan as well.

53. Good for him. Paps are becoming a bunch of stalkers...when the kids are around, give them some freakin' privacy.

56. Why is it ok for the pap to get in someone's face but when it comes back on them it is not ok? I say you reap what you sow.

57. First it is Nicolas Cage twisting some "photographer's" arm and b!tchslapping him.... and now it is Pierce Bronson "battering" another "innocent" photographer.
You guys getting the hint yet ?
Stop harrassing people !

58.

The stalkerazzi are obviously out of control and have been for quite some time.

There really is a truth to the "personal space" issue. For Americans, it is generally 3' in diameter. Once someone is inside, they are invading your space.

If someone is inside my bubble and invading my children's space, that bubble is going to be much smaller. I put away the sissy slappy hand and get right down to the teeth.

Anything that gets close enough for me to bite off, I get to keep. That ought to back 'em up a bit.

59. Folks!!!!!!!!!! No matter what someone says to you. It does not give you the right to hit them. You all are missing the point. That is against the law to lay your hands on anyone. HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe the paparazzi are going over board and should except their bumps and bruise when they push over the line decency of manners. I have no feelings of sorry for any paparazzi when they get hurt while trying to get pictures of the stars when all they were going around doing normal activities. Too bad there no are no laws against them. They are not the media, or photographers.

Look at what they did to Princess Dianna
