Celebrity Feuds
Ellen DeGeneres' Doggone Nightmare

Talk show queen Ellen DeGeneres is caught in the middle of a doggy tug of war that has left an innocent girl in tears.

Ellen and her girlfriend, Portia de Rossi, adopted Iggy (a Brussels Griffon mix) from Mutts and Moms, a dog adoption agency. But things didn't work out as Ellen planned -- her cats didn't get along with Iggy -- so she gave the pooch to her hairdresser, who has two kids, including 12-year-old Ruby.

Last night, a rep from the agency came to the hairdresser's home, claiming Ellen violated the contract by not informing the agency of the hand-off. The rep demanded to take the dog away. Ellen' s position -- yeah, she should have notified the agency, but she found a loving home and isn't that what counts? The agency rep stuck to her guns and removed the dog with cops present. Ruby is heartbroken; reduced to tears.

Ellen says, "I kept saying, 'If you want to be mad at me, be mad at me, but don't take it out on the family. Don't take it out on the dog.'"

106. I understand it takes alot of money to get these dogs ready for adoption(all of ours are pound puppies) but, the new home should have been checked out and if approved the poor girl should have been able to keep the dog. You are in the job of placing dogs into good homes correct??? Hopefully she will get her dog back w/o her mom having to pay another adoption charge. Some of the private pet adoption agencies that I have dealt with act like the dog has to be in a mansion to be happy.

107. The resuce group should be called Mutts and Nuts!

108. Seriously, it's easier to pry a first born child out of its mother's arms than it is to adopt a dog from some of these rescue groups. I mean, you wanna do the right thing and adopt a dog from a group that purports to do some good in the community, but they sure do make you sorry. You're better off going to the county shelter or finding a reputable breeder.

110. That adoption agency should know better, it is traumatic for the animal to be taken from a cage
to loving home then back to a cage again.

If they were really concerned about the animal's welfare instead of 'making a point or example'.
they would have left the dog with the new family and had them fill out paperwork for a back
'just anyone'. This sounds like someone she works with everyday.

111. The agency should definately give the dog back to Ruby, if they truly want the best home for the animal, they should know Ellen would't give the dog to just anyone. They obviously just wanted to be able to say Ellen adopted one of their animals. How pathetic. I'd have a show dedicated to bringing to light just what the agency did and have Ruby on the show to tell how awful they were to her. Show the world what that agency is really all about!

112. Regardless of how the little girl feels, Degeneres broke the contract. Kind of like illegal immigration. If the parents hadn't broken the law to begin with, the children wouldn't be sad because their parents are now being deported. See how that works? Sorry for the little girl, but she only has Ellen to blame.

113. AS THEY SAY' ONLY IN AMERICA' THAT IS THE KIND OF STUFF THAT IS COMPLETELY STUPID! ITS AN ANIMAL AND NOTHING ELSE I'M SURE THAT ELLEN WOULD NOT HAVE GIVEN THE DOG TO THOSE PEOPLE IF SHE THOUGHT THAT THEY WERE NOT KIND AND CARING PEOPLE.

114. i just adopted a greyhound a few months ago..you would not believe what i had to go thru to get 1..seems some of these agencies would rather have animals put down rather than take a chance on a good home..

116. I'd make sure everyone in the universe knew the name of the agency. Sounds like their so-called rules need changing. This is a tragic thing taking a pet back due to some idiotic one-size-fits-all rule..

117. This is just stupid. This pet adoption agency got a celeb to not only adopt from their agency and get a $600 dollar donation!!!!!!!!! Then they bite the hand of the adopte trying to do the right thing!! The agency is full of it. Give them a piece of your mind! Give the dog back to Ruby!

118. it sounds like that adoption agency just wanted to have a celebrity that adopted their animal so they can put that in a brochure somewhere...looks like they're still getting the publicity, with the police involved and everything!

119. I run a rescue and while Ellen did not adhere to the contract once the situation was clear the agency could have simply checked out the new owners and had them execute an agreement to adopt. Was this tried and new owners refused? Maybe more to this but if this is the whole story the rep was not considerate of the final outcome. As long as the dog got a good home and the new owners agreed to simple care and treatment provisions they should have let them transfer the adoption. So sad.

120. This does not surprise me in the least...dog rescue places are getting just a little carried away with themselves--case in point: actually 2 cases in point. I know two people who would have been able to give a dog the best, most loving home ever--but they were turned down because they did NOT have a fenced in yard! We have a 13 yr. old golden we rescued from the humane society some 9 years ago--he is taken to a dog park daily, eats the most expensive food on the market and gets more daily love and affection than most humans could ever wish for...we do not have a fenced in yard--we live in a townhome. That stupid rule did not apply back then...rescuers, please put the animal in first place, not your ridiculous rules and maybe even your egos. Put the animal in the highest and best regard, please!
